When Frances and Ceri Menai-Davis first took their little boy Hugh to the hospital for a swollen tummy, they never imagined their lives were about to shatter.<\/p>\n

At just six years old, Hugh was full of energy, laughter, and innocence. But within months, the bubbly boy would face something no child should \u2014rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and\u00a0aggressive cancer.<\/p>\n

This type of cancer begins in the soft tissues of the body, often starting as an abnormal growth of cells.<\/p>\n

At first, doctors suspected it was something minor \u2014 a virus, perhaps. But when Hugh\u2019s condition didn\u2019t improve, his parents pushed for more tests. That\u2019s when the unthinkable happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur lives changed forever,\u201d Frances said. \u201cThe consultant said, we think Hugh\u2019s got cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hugh\u2019s cancer diagnosis turned everything upside down for his family from Hertfordshire, England. Their days quickly filled with hospital visits, tough chemo treatments, and the constant fear of what might come next.<\/p>\n

His stomach had filled with fluid, putting pressure on his lungs and making it hard for him to breathe.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy wife and I were in tears behind closed doors,\u201d Frances shared with\u00a0Daily Mail.<\/p>\n

\u201cFear is learned, so we didn\u2019t want to show him any weakness. We never told him that he wouldn\u2019t be alright.\u201d<\/p>\n

And through it all, Hugh remained a quiet warrior.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe never moaned or complained, he just got on with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

After several rounds of chemo, Hugh\u2019s condition seemed to improve. His spirit lifted, and his family began to hope again. Then, in May 2021, they got the news they had been dreaming of \u2014 Hugh was officially cancer free. He even rang the bell in the hospital, a powerful symbol of survival and strength.<\/p>\n

But just three months later, their world was turned upside down once again.<\/p>\n

The cancer came back \u2014 and this time, there was nothing more doctors could do. Their sweet, strong little boy passed away in September 2021, just months after ringing that hopeful bell.<\/p>\n

Now, Frances and Ceri are determined to turn their heartbreak into purpose.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ve launched a charity called It\u2019s Never You to support families facing the brutal reality of childhood cancer \u2014 and they\u2019re using Hugh\u2019s story to urge parents everywhere to trust their instincts.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one knows your child better than you,\u201d Hugh\u2019s dad emphasized. \u201cAnd the majority of the time it is nothing to worry about, but from our experience it is worth the effort.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their message is clear: Even if symptoms seem minor, don\u2019t wait. Advocate. Ask questions. Push for answers. Because sometimes, time makes all the difference.<\/p>\n

This year, Hugh\u2019s dad also ran the London Marathon in honor of his six-year-old son and he managed to raise over $60,000 for charity.<\/p>\n

Ceri Menai-Davis, 42, completed the grueling 26.2-mile race carrying 44 pounds on his back \u2014 representing his son\u2019s weight at the time of his passing \u2014 along with the names of 200 children still fighting cancer today.<\/p>\n

Now, Hugh\u2019s grieving parents are pushing for real change.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re fighting to pass \u201cHugh\u2019s Law,\u201d a proposal that would provide critical financial relief for parents forced to take time off work while caring for a seriously ill child in the hospital. The law would call for measures like temporary mortgage breaks, waived property taxes, and free transportation\u2014helping families stay afloat during the unthinkable.<\/p>\n

Their mission is simple: no parent should have to worry about bills when their child is fighting for their life.<\/p>\n
